Welcome to the Hard Part (aka the Good Part)
Hey Reader,
You know that saying, “When it rains, it pours”? That’s been 2025 for me—but in the best way. Compared to last year, I’m flying by the seat of my pants, and honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you listened to Season 1 of The School of Moxie Podcast (Season 2 just dropped—scroll down for the trailer), you’ll remember I landed on a big revelation: I want to open a professional-grade studio for podcasters and YouTubers in the Portland/Vancouver area. Since then, a few small studios have popped up, but none match the vision I’ve been nurturing. After visiting studios around the world in 2023, I know the difference—and the demand is real.
But I stalled out. The process was so huge. Enter my first lucky break: my Common Wealth bestie, Megan Eckman, asked me to solve my problem in the pilot for her program Uplevel Lab. Things started moving, but still no physical location. Enter my next lucky break: my Common Wealth bestie, Dusti Arab, sent me an incubator open house. I went, I fell in love, and now I’m deep in the application process—which includes a full 5-year business and financial plan, detailed expenses, and (plot twist) a mentorship requirement.
Smells like potential in 769 sq ft + porch access.
That’s how I met Dave, a retired business pro from SCORE who has completely changed my trajectory. Thanks to him, I’m out of my echo chamber, scaling my vision with actual numbers—not fantasy math. I’ve submitted my full packet, and while I don’t have the keys (yet), I’ve gone from daydream to full momentum. Even if it’s not this exact location, I’m now ready. And yes, I’m also talking to angel investors.
I debated whether to share all this before it's “official,” but this is the part most people skip: the messy, thrilling middle. I wish someone had shown me this part. So I’m showing it to you.
P.S. SCORE is hosting a free virtual summit for National Small Business Week. If you’re pivoting or stuck in the middle, this might be your next move.
The Algorithm Knows Me Too Well & I’m Afraid...
💃🏻 Quick Ball Change
Did someone say death of the funnel? I agree—kind of. Funnels as a concept aren’t going anywhere, but the old timelines, expectations, and tactics? They’re toast. People need more organic connection now. So what works? Content. Consistent, high-quality proof of life from your brand. That’s how you build trust in 2025.
👾 Take My Money
These retro gaming sets have been haunting my ads lately and I am this close to clicking "buy." If you've ever seen me IRL, you've seen my iPhone case—an homage to the OG Game Boy (thanks, sis). Once a gamer, always a gamer. I will always go back for the princess.
📣 Well, It Is Kind Of Like A Circus
The marketing/circus metaphor is making the rounds again—this time on LinkedIn—and honestly, it still hits. Your brand is the tent. Marketing brings the crowd. But media? Media is the show. It's what your audience sees, hears, and feels. And if you don’t capture it, no one’s showing up for the main event.

🎧 Ted Lasso is a Business Story | School of Moxie Podcast Season 2 Trailer
After a full year delay, I'm back on the mic to finally (finally!!) talk about Ted Lasso. With the way the world is... err... special... right now, this feel good show will have you laughing and crying. What else? You'll definitely be thinking about leadership and entrepreneurship, too. Let's set the stage: Roy Kent isn't just a footballer—he's a mirror for every entrepreneur who’s realizing it’s time to evolve or get left behind. If you’ve ever felt like the old way of doing business doesn’t fit anymore, this season is for you.
Welcome to Season 2 of The School of Moxie Podcast, where we’re breaking down the entrepreneurial journey through the lens of Ted Lasso—yes, really. Every episode is a mix of character arcs, metaphysical gut checks, and bold business insights that hit harder than a headbutt from Jamie Tartt.
🔥 This trailer sets the tone:
Why leadership ≠ being the loudest voice
Why impact > influence
Why some thought leaders need a permanent time-out
