🎙️ Take Back the Fucking Mic
Hey Reader,
Are you having fun with your business these days? Because I’ll be honest... fun is the only thing keeping me from rage-spiraling about the state of the world. If you need a little levity this week, these were my favs that might give you a giggle or some inspo to keep going: this + this + this + this + this.
And if you think your business isn’t political, not only is my brand definitely not for you, but you’re about to learn the hard way how the world shows up.
Yes, I see the absurdity in trying to build a better future while half the country thinks we’re living inside a Succession episode, and the other half is already auditioning for a Handmaid’s Tale reboot.
But let’s talk about your business… because your bottom line? It’s absolutely on the line right now. I would know. Where I live has been at the center of worldwide news all week, and I'm pissed. Civilian rights are being actively infringed and it's getting really personal. I hope to bejeezus it doesn’t have to get personal for you before you do something, too.
There’s a new piece in The Hollywood Reporter that straight up says podcast hosts are being positioned as the ultimate influencers. Not in a cute "here's my fall haul" kind of way. Conservative media is charging into the podcast space and being handed a very loud mic, backed by very real ad dollars. Brands like Meta, Amazon, and Paramount are already signed on.
Now listen: I am not here to tell you to burn down your business and start a nonprofit. But if they are willing to go all-in on podcasting to push their values… and you are still sitting quietly, thinking you don’t have enough time, enough gear, or enough to say? You’re letting someone in a red hat speak for you.
Do you want that?
Because I sure as hell don’t.
Taking back the mic doesn’t mean churning out daily episodes or torturing yourself with content formulas that were never designed for solo founders. What it does mean is finding a way to speak clearly, show up with integrity, and protect your voice while we still have a First Amendment to stand on.
That’s what pre-production is for.
Inside Sound Before the Spotlight, I teach smart professionals how to run lean, sustainable shows that don’t drain your time, energy, or bank account. You learn to amplify your marketing message, which, believe it or not, is the ultimate First Amendment flex. You’ll learn the exact same process whether you’re doing it yourself or hiring my studio to produce it for you. Either way, it’s designed to save you money, get you consistent, and, most importantly, put you back in control of your message.
Because your values do mean something.
Because this rainstorm isn’t hypothetical.
And because I’m tired of watching brilliant business owners get soaked while they’re still trying to convince themselves it’s not actually raining.
If you want to stay in the loop, hit the links below and get on the list. A cohort is taking off with one in the wings as I send this email to you. Trust me when I say, you are not alone and you are in great company.
Teaser: You, Me, & ChatGPT will be back next week with a big ol’ upgrade, and trust me… you’re gonna want first dibs.
Gossip From the Creator Trenches...
🎮 The New Oil Rush: Entertainment Edition
If you still know anyone over at EA Games, send ‘em a sympathy taco. They were just quietly sold to the Saudis in a private deal brokered by Jared Kushner. Why does this matter? Because gaming is massive business, especially sports franchises... but it’s also a sneaky access point into user data across devices. Makes the TikTok panic look like preschool show-and-tell. 🔗 Click here with your controller.
🗽 Free Speech, Rebooted
If it feels like we’ve time-warped back to the 1950s, that’s because we have. Capitol Hill is bringing back its McCarthy-era antics... but there’s a new bright spot. A-list entertainers are reigniting the Committee for the First Amendment and saying the quiet part out loud. If you run your own business, this matters. Speech is currency and if you're not using yours, someone else is. 🔗 Finally, some fucking sanity.
📺 YouTube... Seriously?
I swear I didn’t plan for this to be a theme, but we’re 3-for-3 this week on First Amendment madness. YouTube just settled with Trump’s lawyers for $24.5 million over his post–January 6th suspension. But wait! There's more!! $22 million of that is reportedly being used to fund that godawful cheetoh ballroom add-on to the White House. Free speech? Nah. Just money laundering in a MAGA tux. 🔗 Le sigh. That is all.
Studio Updates
How Long Does It Really Take? Megan Eckman from Fat Cap Design wrote a killer case study about the messy, magical road to launching Sasquatch Media Grounds. She and her husband Jeffrey Opp helped unstick me from the quagmire of my own overthinking (shocking, I know) using their design-thinking approach. Spoiler: it wasn’t fast… but it was worth it.
Speaking of works in progress... the site has finally moved onto its domain and is not on Notion, but it's a mess at the moment. Pretty websites ≠ making $$$. https://sasquatchmediagrounds.com
Curiosity By Design
Beth Salyers fearlessly unleashes her curious brain onto YouTube, and I’m cheering her on with a bullhorn and a marching band (yes, even if it’s that school in Ohio 😭 IYKYK).
She’s been both a client and a friend, and watching her show up with sharp ideas and bold heart is everything. Her pre-production process didn’t just shape her show... it helped spark what became Sasquatch Media Grounds.
Beth’s the perfect example of why I built this studio: for smart professionals who already know their stuff... and want to look and sound as good as they are (without playing influencer).
The year is winding down… but the cosmos isn’t letting us coast. We’re closing out a 9 year of endings and inching toward a 1 year of beginnings... it comes with eclipses, Mercury retrograde, and some serious outer-planet shake-ups marking the transition.
This quarter (October - December 2025) is all about processing the aftershocks, finishing what’s truly done, and catching those first sparks of what’s next.
The full private podcast dives into the quarterly ritual, the key dates, and how to work with the energy instead of against it. You can get 65 minutes of quarterly intuitive strategy, too!
