Pedro Said Make It Weird 🤠Sensible Woo

We’re not in Kansas anymore, creators.

Hey Reader,

If you’ve been paying attention to the media shifts over the last few years—and I really hope you have—you’ll notice something big: the future of business is being shaped by the entertainment industry. Not because we’re all launching TV shows or becoming actors, but because our attention is moving. Permanently.

The latest Digital Media Trends report from Deloitte just dropped, and it backs up what I’ve been saying for a long time now: social media creators are not just “competing” with traditional studios—they’re winning.

Social platforms, powered by advanced AI and ad tech, are drawing more than half of U.S. advertising spending. Meanwhile, streaming platforms—formerly the disruptive darlings of the entertainment world—are now struggling to sustain audience engagement, justify subscription prices, and maintain profitability. Traditional studios? They're bleeding from both ends: losing audiences and ad dollars.

If you’re still modeling your business marketing and content strategy after the “influencer” playbooks from 2017—or worse, mimicking internet-famous entrepreneurs with the large staff, big lists, and even bigger budgets—you’re not just behind the times… you might be unknowingly building on a crumbling foundation.

This is why I’ve doubled down on watching entertainment trends over the past few years. It’s why I started weaving more of that cultural analysis into everything I create—from trending spicy romance metaphors to experimenting with a podcast using commentary on the latest zeitgeist TV shows. The water cooler moments matter. They’re what make your content human. And being human in business is what builds trust, loyalty, and relevance.

So this summer, I’m inviting you to step into the rebellion: The CEO Summer Rebellion. It’s not just another content planning workshop series. It’s a radical reorientation for business owners who are ready to ditch outdated strategies and learn how to leverage new media—while the window is still wide open.

More on that soon.

But for now, let this week’s takeaway be this:
✨ If creators are becoming the new studios, then small business owners like you are poised to become the new media empires. No matter the size.

Don’t wait until the platform pulls the plug. Own your voice. Own your list. Own your message.

My Latest Hyperfixation & I’m Taking You With Me...

🎬 Bite-Sized Drama, Big-Time Metrics

TikTok Micro Dramas Are Eating the Internet
More proof that new media is the media: micro dramas are blowing up on TikTok, and I am absolutely in it. Think soap opera energy meets vertical video—with a lot of melted cheese on top. Chef’s kiss. They’re weird, messy, addictive… and they’re pulling serious eyeballs. If you’re in marketing or media and not watching this shift, you’re missing the memo.

🔍 This Internet Is Not That Internet

Your Search Results Aren’t Broken—They’re Rigged
The digital landscape is officially splintering, and if it feels harder to find trustworthy info these days, that’s because it is. I’ve been seeing this coming since library school, where we debated algorithmic bias over beers. Welcome to the age of the Balkanized Internet—if you're wondering why “Googling it” no longer gives you clarity, this explainer is a must-watch.

🗳️ Get Involved, Get Loud, Get Visible

Running a Business Is a Civic Act. Start Acting Like It.
One of the best moves I made in 2024? Volunteering for my local library’s board of trustees. Yes, it’s civic duty. Yes, it’s time-consuming. But it has supercharged my business. If you’ve ever wondered what kind of relationship you want with your community—online or IRL—this piece might stir something up. Business is political. Leadership is local. Don’t sleep on it.

Is a little bit of shadow work! To help us get through the rest of all these retrogrades and dust off our booties after this weekend's solar eclipse in the Aries new moon. It's a LOT. Feeling that?

🧃 Networking That Doesn’t Suck (And Might Even Make You Laugh)

You know what makes people glaze over at networking events? Leading with your elevator pitch. You know what actually makes people remember you? Being a real, weird, multifaceted human.

This week on the channel, I’m giving you a peek behind the scenes of the very first Hustle Hard Slide Faster event—a new, very un-stuffy networking experience I co-host with my yes-friend Megan Eckman. And I’m re-delivering my PechaKucha talk on camera so you can see just how fun (and impactful) this format can be.

video preview

✨ Spoiler: I talk about romance novels, billion-dollar buying power, and how women’s joy is carrying the publishing industry.

If you’ve been craving more realness in your business community—or you want to try your hand at one of these rapid-fire talks—come see what we’re up to and maybe start sketching your own slides. It’s way more fun than a vision board and has better snacks.

Affiliate Hub

Make it easy to get paid! Strategically. I shifted to Thrivecart so my clients' payments were separated from other SaaS. That means I'm free to change software without losing MRR because I don't need to migrate payments.

So you want to stick it to Bezos? Firstly, have you consider being eco-conscious, keeping your Kindle and using your library? Otherwise, check your options here.
