📣 The Revolution Is Not a Studio Deal

So... let’s not act like this was a normal week in media.
ABC yanked Jimmy Kimmel from broadcast & streaming indefinitely for comments that fall well within First Amendment rights. The network (owned by Disney) was pressured publicly by their distributor, Sinclair Broadcast Media. You know, the same Sinclair that owns distribution for most of your local news stations. If you think your media isn’t being puppeteered by billionaires in golf shirts... I have a little something called reality to introduce you to.
Meanwhile, the Ellison family (yes... Oracle, military contracts, tech bro royalty) is sniffing around Warner Bros. like it’s an estate sale. If they land that deal, they’ll control HBO, CNN, and pretty much every fancy IP the studio system has been clinging to like a rosary. And just to keep things spicy, they’re also in talks to buy TikTok if it gets forced into a sale. By the time you get this newsletter, news of the deal may already be published but hadn't yet been announced when I scheduled this to land in your inbox on time.
We’re not just watching media consolidation. We are watching the full chokehold of distribution... and it’s not subtle.
This is a straight-up power grab. And unless you’re ready to get louder and get smarter about your content, you will absolutely get drowned out by people with deeper pockets, less soul, and better syndication.
I’ve worked inside the studio machine — Disney, no less — and I’m here to tell you, the “talent” (even someone like Kimmel) is just a glossy distraction. The real game is played behind the scenes where people with names you've never heard of decide who gets greenlit, who gets backed, who gets seen. It’s all distribution. And I’m not just talking about Hollywood. It’s your business too.
If you’ve got a podcast, a YouTube channel, an email list, or even a half-decent Instagram... congratulations, you are a media property. And if you’re not treating it like one? You’re letting your own revolution rot in drafts.
While you're worrying about going viral, I'm worried about whether your content even has a system to go anywhere. Because content doesn’t convert if nobody sees it. It doesn’t make you money if there’s no pipeline to sell through. This is why pre-production isn’t optional. It’s foundational. You don’t get a fuck-off-level business if your media is a sloppy panic upload and a Canva template you picked at 2am.
Meanwhile, real, live creators are taking over... one subscriber at a time.
They’re on YouTube with crunchy thumbnails and wildly inconsistent upload schedules, and guess what? They’re still miles ahead of anyone who hasn’t even tried. This summer I had folks show up to a YouTube workshop I co-led with my forever ride-or-die Stephanie Halligan. What we unpacked as a group was that even with ghost town channels, they were all sitting on gold. Because they’ve got something most people don’t: start energy. And start energy beats perfection every single time.
And then there’s the Hormozi situation... 🙄 If you're still out here buying his shitty little pamphlets and pretending they’re strategy, I don’t know what to tell you. That man is out here selling you the equivalent of a broken transmission (while wearing Breathe Right strips) and calling it a Ferrari. If you genuinely want to get across town (fast, clean, on your own terms) maybe don’t take directions from someone stuck in 2015 sales culture.
This moment isn’t waiting for you... It’s already happening in the weird corners of the internet where real humans are saying real shit and building actual communities. It’s YouTube. It’s podcast feeds. It’s newsletters like this one. It’s TikTok (at least for now). It’s Discord servers and scrappy underdog content that makes you feel something.
So yeah... if you were waiting for permission to be louder, weirder, more visible, more YOU — this is it.
And if you’re pissed? Good. That’s fuel. 🔥
You don’t need another funnel. You need a fucking plan. And the first step to that plan is getting your media house in order.
